Renate Stendhal, Ph.D., is German-born and Paris-educated. She lives and works in the San Francsico Bay area as a counselor, writing coach and provost/mentor in private practice.
She is the award-winning author of several non-fiction and fiction books, two of them co-authored with her life-companion Kim Chernin (click on the left-side link “Collaboration”). In Paris and Copenhagen, she has created the first feminist multimedia show in Europe, “In the Beginning… of the End” (with Danish painter Maj Skadegaard), in 1980-81. After her university studies of literature and several years in dance and theater in Paris, Renate became a cultural journalist and literary translator. Apart from lecturing widely, she has published numerous essays and cultural reviews in Europe and the United States. Her regular articles on dance, opera etc. can be found at http://scene4.com.
In the States, she earned a Ph.D. in spiritual psychology and became a Provost for UIL (University for Integrative Learning), a “university without walls” that rewards reflections on life-long learning.
